Abstract

Editing is a very important activity, both in the context of managing media (print and online, audio on radio and audiovisual on television), managing journals, or in works (fiction and non-fiction). This research aims to comprehensively describe the Javanese language editing skills carried out by students of the Regional Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University in the field of word choice (diction in Javanese Language). The methods used include data collection methods and techniques, data analysis methods and techniques, and report presentation methods and techniques. The data collection methods and techniques used is a test method, that is, students are given a text that contains language errors (especially written language) and then students are asked to edit (edit, correct these errors.) The pretest showed students' low ability in editing diction or word choice in Javanese. The average pretest score on a scale of 100 is 33. This shows very low Javanese language skills. However, the posttest results showed a significant increase compared to the pretest scores. If the average pretest score is 33, then the average posttest score is 83. This posttest score increased after students were given an explanation regarding the mistakes made during the pretest.
