The documentary film “Tempa: The Dimming of the Craftsman Generation in Dusun Tembaga” explores the lives of artisans in Dusun Tumang, located in Cepogo, Boyolali. Known as “Dusun Tembaga” (Copper Village), this community has a long-standing tradition of copper craftsmanship rooted in its history. The village originated from a settlement established by a religious figure named Kiai Rogosasi, which eventually evolved into what is now Dusun Tumang. Today, it is widely recognized for its exquisite copper handicrafts and the intricate engraving skills passed down through generations. However, with the rapid advancement of technology and shifting social dynamics, the village now faces significant challenges—most notably, a declining interest among the younger generation in pursuing copper craftsmanship. This has led to a steady decrease in the number of artisans over time. This documentary adopts a combination of expository and participatory modes, incorporating the filmmaker’s direct involvement and voice-over narration to guide the narrative. As the scriptwriter, the author conducted primary and secondary research, including interviews with relevant sources, to ensure the validity and reliability of the data presented. In conclusion, the documentary is grounded in factual realities, emphasizing the critical role of pre-production and thorough research. “Tempa: The Dimming of the Craftsman Generation in Dusun Tembaga” aims to inspire the youth of Dusun Tumang to continue the legacy of copper craftsmanship as both a cultural heritage and a sustainable livelihood.
