PERDAGANGAN OPIUM DI YOGYAKARTA TAHUN 1894-1930
OPIUM TRADE IN YOGYAKARTA 1894-1930
Keywords:

The results of this research show that the opium trade in Yogyakarta in 1894-1930 was influenced by regional
conditions such as geographical, demographic, social, and economic conditions. The opium trade in
Yogyakarta had used two trade policy systems, the opiumpacht and opiumregie systems. The opiumpacht
system in Yogyakarta took place in 1894-1902. The opiumpacht system required pachters who had been
selected in the auction system. Opium auctions were conducted three times during the period 1894-1902
because the pacht system was replaced by the regie system. The regie system was introduced in 1901, but the
pacht system was still in place. The opiumregie system in Yogyakarta officially took place in 1903-1930. The
opium-regie system was fully controlled by the colonial government under the Departement van Financien
through the Dienst Der Opiumregie. The colonial government's monopoly on opium led to the widespread use
of opium in Yogyakarta, but on the other hand opium became a major source of income for the state treasury.
