Analysis of Communication Patterns of Children with Autism at Al Firdaus Inclusive Elementary School

This study aims to examine the one-way, two-way, and multi-way communication patterns exhibited by a child with autism at an inclusive school, namely SD Al Firdaus Surakarta. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques include observation and interviews. The subject of this study is one child with autism enrolled at SD Al Firdaus Surakarta. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the subject is capable of engaging in one-way, two-way, and multi-way communication. One-way communication is demonstrated by the subject’s ability to receive and carry out instructions given by teachers and peers without providing feedback. Two-way communication is shown by the subject’s ability to respond to teachers and peers who initiate communication, although responses are limited to everyday vocabulary and sometimes do not correspond accurately to the questions asked. Multi-way communication is exhibited by the subject’s ability to communicate with multiple teachers and various peers.
