Abstract

The use of social media continues to increase, particularly among adolescents. Despite its benefits, the growing prevalence of social media has been accompanied by a rise in online gender-based violence (OGBV). This issue may be exacerbated by limited literacy regarding OGBV. Therefore, psychoeducation is needed to equip adolescents with the knowledge and awareness required to protect themselves and others from such violence. A community service program delivering psychoeducation on OGBV literacy was implemented at SMA Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo as a promotive effort to improve students’ OGBV-related literacy and reduce the likelihood of future incidents. The intervention used a lecture-based method. Pre-test and post-test were administered to assess participants’ knowledge before and after the session. Analysis using the Wilcoxon test indicated that, although mean scores increased from pre-test to post-test, the improvement was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that the single-session lecture did not yield a measurable change in participants’ knowledge. Potential contributing factors include the session duration, participant engagement, the implementation setting, and the delivery approach. Accordingly, this program may inform improvements to the design and delivery of similar initiatives in the future.
