These tools can provide assistance in reviewing and synthesizing complex literature, identifying research gaps, organizing content, and improving language and readability. Bio-Peda policies concerning the use of software and AI Tools have been formulated by referring to:

For Authors

  • Software and AI Tools, including platforms such as ChatGPT or similar systems, can not be listed as co-author(s)
  • AI tools cannot be cited as primary sources (references).
  • Authors may utilize software and AI Tools to facilitate the generation and exploration of new ideas.
  • Authors may utilize software and AI Tools for language improvement, including refining clarity, grammar, readability, formatting, and structure.
  • Authors may utilize software and AI Tools to assist with the classification of literature.
  • Authors may utilize software and AI Tools to provide assistance with coding.
  • Authors may utilize software and AI Tools to perform statistical analysis.
  • Interactive online searching is permitted using AI Tools, including features found in Large Language Model (LLM)-enhanced search engines.
  • Authors must specify which AI model, tool, or software was used and describe how it assisted the manuscript.
  • The use of AI Tools and software must strictly adhere to all legislation governing privacy, confidentiality, and intellectual property rights.
  • Authors bear sole responsibility for the accuracy of all content produced by computational software or AI tools. This includes the rigorous verification of facts and the elimination of fabricated content or AI-generated "hallucinations."
  • Authors retain the exclusive responsibility for the analysis of results and subsequent synthesis.
  • Generating synthetic data using AI Tools without proper and robust methodology is prohibited.
  • The creation and deceptive manipulation of data, findings, results, images, and figures using Generative AI Tools is prohibited.
  • Authors bear full ethical and legal responsibility for their use of AI and software.
  • Illegal or unethical usage of AI Tools and software (such as data manipulation) may lead to severe consequences, up to and including Request for Revision, Rejection, or Retraction.

For Editors and Reviewers

  • Reviewers may use assistive AI Tools solely for improving clarity or language quality in their review reports. They remain responsible for the accuracy, tone, and integrity of all comments submitted.
  • Editors may use AI Tools to support administrative processes, i.e. searching for potential reviewers, provided confidentiality is preserved.
  • Editors and reviewers must not use AI tools to generate review reports.
  • Editors and reviewers must not use AI tools to draft decision letters or editorial assessments.
  • Editors and reviewers must not upload files, images, or information from unpublished manuscripts into Generative AI Tools, especially if platforms may learn from or reuse the data.
  • Editors and reviewers bear full ethical and legal responsibility for their use of AI and software.
  • Illegal or unethical usage of AI Tools and software may lead to severe consequences, up to and including Suspension, or permanent Disqualification.
